A New Regency Home in Wiltshire

Regency Charm for Modern Living

Alex Oliver Associates designed a classical, Regency-style country house that combines traditional elegance with practical modern living. The front of the property is characterized by a formal, three-bay, stucco-fronted façade that captures the grandeur and symmetry typical of Regency architecture. This front-facing aspect presents a timeless aesthetic, with clean lines, well-proportioned windows, and a sense of refined sophistication that is both inviting and impressive.

In contrast, the rear part of the house adopts a more vernacular style, blending seamlessly into the surrounding landscape and providing a charming, rustic counterpoint to the formal front. This approach creates a harmonious balance between the stately presence of the Regency style and the cozy, approachable feel of vernacular architecture. The use of traditional materials and design elements at the back of the house ensures that the property feels both rooted in its environment and versatile in its appeal. This thoughtful design allows for a dynamic living experience that caters to various tastes and preferences within a single cohesive structure.

Adding to the property’s versatility, a linked brick-built garage wing mimics the form of a barn, integrating additional living accommodation above. This wing provides great flexibility for modern lifestyles, particularly in terms of working from home or creating a separate annexe for guests or extended family. The barn-like structure, with its robust and functional aesthetic, complements the overall design while offering practical solutions for contemporary needs. This combination of classical elegance, vernacular charm, and modern functionality makes the property a well-rounded and adaptable living space that honors tradition while embracing modernity.
