Contemporary Country House in Oxfordshire

Alex Oliver Associates designed a striking contemporary country house for a steeply sloping site in South Oxfordshire, where it's embraced by the undulating hills and verdant foliage of the region. Here, modern design seamlessly merges with the natural beauty of its surroundings.

The design makes imaginative use of the site’s dramatic topography, positioning the house to maximise panoramic views while maintaining a sense of seclusion. Expanses of glazing were envisioned to flood the interiors with natural light, creating a seamless connection between the indoors and the surrounding countryside.

The proposed layout featured open-plan living spaces that balanced functionality with a welcoming, airy feel. Each area of the house was thoughtfully positioned to frame unique vistas of the landscape, ensuring a home that felt deeply rooted in its setting. Sustainability was central to the concept, with an emphasis on energy efficiency and the use of locally sourced materials to harmonise with the natural environment.
