Grade II Listed Farmyard Development

Residential Development of a Historic Farmyard

Alex Oliver Associates obtained Planning and Listed Building Consent for seven new residential properties within a historic farmstead in the Wiltshire village of Wootton Rivers.  The project involves the conversion of two Grade II Listed Barns into new dwellings as well as the construction of further sensitively designed residential properties on the site.

Our design philosophy was to reflect the nature of the historic farmyard as well as local vernacular characteristics. As such the historic farmstead has been sensitively developed with the new buildings being positioned in keeping with the existing agrarian character of the site, ensuring that the key historic views of the site from the conservation area are maintained. On the new buildings traditional massing and forms have been articulated with architectural features such as the timber framing, wooden cladding, arched window heads and clay roof tiles present on the retained historic barns.  The existing barns have been sensitively modernised to enable conversion.
