Cultural & Heritage Centre in Wiltshire
The redevelopment of this Grade II Listed Victorian town hall complex into a cultural and heritage centre
Alex Oliver Associates was commissioned by Calne Town Council to create a scoping study and feasibility proposals for redeveloping the existing Grade II Victorian town hall complex. Our proposal envisions transforming the site into a dynamic cultural quarter that will serve as a hub for heritage, the arts, and visitor facilities.
The redevelopment plan includes converting the town hall complex into a vibrant cultural center, featuring a craft gallery, a café, and new exhibition spaces alongside the existing community hall facilities. The current service yard will be reimagined as a Piazza & Sculpture Square, addressing the spatial constraints within the town and providing a new communal area.
At the heart of the project is a striking new glazed atrium, designed to seamlessly connect the various historic buildings. This atrium will serve as a central hub for circulation, exhibition, and café activities, creating an inviting and cohesive space that enhances the overall functionality and appeal of the cultural quarter.
