Hilliers Yard

Our design proposals for this contemporary mixed-use building in Marlborough's Conservation Area aim to bridge heritage and modernity. Nestled on a challenging site among car parks behind the High Street, the building is conceived as a reimagined market hall, designed to harmonise with its historic surroundings while meeting contemporary needs.

The structure is carefully scaled to work both on a larger civic level and an intimate pedestrian scale, creating a dynamic connection with the surrounding streetscape. Traditional materials such as brick, timber, and stone are layered with a modern aesthetic, forming a collage that reflects Marlborough’s architectural heritage while clearly signalling a fresh vision.

Emphasising local pathways and the historical burgage plot lines, the design thoughtfully incorporates these elements, grounding the building in the site’s unique historical context. The result is a building that not only respects but enriches the cultural fabric of Marlborough, bringing renewed vibrancy to this Conservation Area.
